Bestiary: Common

8 Eye
World: Final Fantasy
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 3
Danger Rating NIGHT: 5
Description: A squishy, shuffling mass of eyeballs that seem to be grafted together and covered in blood. It moves surprisingly quickly for a creature of its shape and size, and its mere presence is enough to drain a character of their energy - though during the day, it is much slower and its draining is not as effective. If it manages to catch up to a character, it will attempt to knock them over and slime its way over their face. The character will be simultaneously drained of their energy and suffocated; when it drags itself away, the character's eyes will be missing, and a pair of eyes exactly like theirs will be grafted to the creature's body.
Bullfairy
World: Homestuck
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 0
Danger Rating NIGHT: 0
Description: These creatures are quite small, resembling bulls with fairy wings. Something does seem to have gone wrong in the transition, though; their wings seem to have been painfully grafted onto their backs, and they wail in pain whenever they fly--which is unfortunate, because their legs are too weak to carry them; they often sport broken, mangled limbs from their attempts to rest their wings. Still, they're harmless.

Chocobo
World: Final Fantasy
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 8
Danger Rating NIGHT: 8
Description: Large, bipedal birds that have yellow feathers--though, given how bloody and broken they seem, it's hard to tell their feathers weren't always red. These shy birds will run away from anyone who approaches them, but if cornered they will attack viciously, and their large feet are no joke to get clawed up by: they'll disembowel someone caught off-guard. While easily large enough for the average person to ride around on, they are untamable and their broken bodies mean they'll only screech out in pain and try to roll or otherwise kick anyone riding them off.

ChuChu
World: Legend of Zelda
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: N/A
Danger Rating NIGHT: 3-6
Description: Gelatinous creatures about the size of a grown man, these creatures have a habit of swallowing up and absorbing things left around them. They come in five varieties: red, green, yellow, blue, and purple. Red is the most common and purple is the least common. All ChuChus attempt to swallow up, suffocate, and absorb their prey; the digesting entrails of anything they kill, along with their items, can be seen in their transparent bodies. Red varieties can only hope to fall upon and suffocate their prey. Green varieties can use their bodies to bludgeon their opponents before absorbing them. Yellow varieties have electricity running through them that they can use to electrocute and paralyze prey while they absorb it. Blue varieties can be found most often in the water where they are extremely quick and difficult to see. Purple varieties can only absorb like the red ones, but they are like acid to the touch and therefore being swallowed up by one invites near-instant death. All varieties of Chuchu harden and crumble to dust in sunlight. Bludgeoning or striking these creatures with sharp weapons is mostly ineffective due to their goo-like bodies, but other than this they are not especially strong.

Dusk
World: Kingdom Hearts
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 3
Danger Rating NIGHT: 5
Description: White, sinuous creatures who look like they were stretched on a rack before being brought to the Tower, these creatures twitch and warp as if the bones in them have been broken; their necks hang backwards as if their spines were snapped. They are very quick and attack rapidly and in groups, but they are not especially strong. They can only be harmed by supernatural attacks, or weapons granted supernatural abilities. They are more numerous at night.

Husk
World: Mass Effect
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 6
Danger Rating NIGHT: 6
Description: The best way to describe them would be as biotech zombies, because that's what they are. Corpses of sentient creatures, usually humanoid but not necessarily so, have been fused with large, thick machinery that converts the dead body into something not really biological anymore. They pulse blue and are electrified--touching them will immediately you, though they can also give off pulses of electricity which will electrocute anyone in the area and shut off electronic devices, sometimes ruining the devices completely. They tend to attack in swarms and will attempt to rip, tear, and electrocute those who catch their eye with single-minded purpose.

Imp
World: Homestuck
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 0
Danger Rating NIGHT: 4
Description: During the day these creatures are tiny, hunched-over humanoids, with a black, oil-like trail following after them. They often follow characters around, observing. During the night they take these observations to heart and transform into strange mockeries of various features of the characters they observed, but in a way that's gone terrible wrong--their tails will be dripping with blood constantly, their cat ears will be torn to shreds, their human-like eyes will be hanging out of their sockets. They attack at night using similar skills to the characters, but at a much weaker level. Still, it's best to kill them during the day, before they can transform.

Komory Wow
World: Kingdom Hearts
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 4
Danger Rating NIGHT: 7
Description: Something seems to have gone terribly wrong in the transition of these monsters to the Tower. They have squishy, elliptical bodies, no larger than perhaps a dachshund. Grafted to these plump, black and purple bodies are indigo bat wings and yellow bat ears that tend to droop when they are not in use. This creature's maw is stretched up and back along its face in a way that its jowls were not meant to stretch, revealing sharp fangs and a teal tongue. These monsters do not exactly bleed, but tendrils of black smoke and ooze tend to congeal where their body parts are haphazardly attached.

The strange hybrid would often rather follow people around than engage in direct combat, almost seeming friendly at first. But the more time that is spent with them, the more they drain from the character they are following -- powers, energy, and sanity. They cause warping, surreal hallucinations and a permeating sense of anxiety and paranoia the longer they stick around. Their presence causes sleeplessness no matter how tired the character has become, and they do not just slowly disable a character's powers, they actually absorb them.

Once a character has been drained of all of their powers and most of their remaining life force, these monsters use the character's own abilities and energy to finish them off. They are drawn to characters with strong magical powers, and characters that dream frequently. It's really best to kill them off as soon as you find them, before they've leeched everything from you.

Looper
World: Skies of Arcadia
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 1
Danger Rating NIGHT: 6
Description: Strange, floating creatures that look sort of like upside-down teardrops surrounded by a ring. They are all but harmless during the day, and will immediately flee if a character gets close, but at night they work together: A single white Looper will taunt a character and prompt it to follow it, but will then flee; pursuit will lead characters into an ambush, with red, yellow, blue, and purple Loopers unleashing barrages of fire, lightning, water, and ice magic while a green Looper focuses on healing any wounds the Loopers sustain. If they manage to form a circle around a character, the white Looper will transform into a black one that can cause a character to collapse with fatigue if it manages to touch it - and given that it is incredibly quick, this may be inevitable. The Loopers themselves will not directly kill characters, but will incapacitate them so they can be feasted upon by other monsters - which the Loopers will lead to the character's body.

Miniblin
World: Legend of Zelda
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 3
Danger Rating NIGHT: 6
Description: Small creatures resembling satyr. Their limbs appear to have been put on awkwardly--they crawl like spiders along the floors, ceilings, and walls of the Tower. The only way they can attack, so mutilated, is to bite, but they're very quick and tend to attack in groups. Their groups are much larger at night.

Mirelurk
World: Fallout
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 0
Danger Rating NIGHT: 5
Description: These giant, mutated crustaceans and similar-looking beasts--everything from crabs to trilobites--lurk in any body of water large enough to contain them, except the chlorinated pool (if, however, the pool cleaners don't do their jobs well enough, they will begin to inhabit it). During the day they're harmless, slinking away from light and hiding in the dark places in the water, but they feed at night; if one is captured, the Mirelurk will cut through skin, muscle, and bone and drink the blood before eating the insides of the character in question, leaving only the skin untouched.

Mooshroom
World: Minecraft
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 2
Danger Rating NIGHT: 2
Description: These cows seem to be horribly infested with mushrooms--the brown fungus grows out of their skin and every possible orifice, and sticky white fungal matter coats most of their body. These creatures are passive and will not attack, but if you milk them or kill them to consume their flesh, you'll pass the fungal infection on to yourself. Eventually you too will be covered in mushrooms that explode from your body. These mushrooms will eventually take control of your mind, making you want nothing more than to wait passively for one of the other monsters of the Tower to consume you so that the fungus can spread.

Mr. Saturn
World: Mother/Earthbound
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 0
Danger Rating NIGHT: 0
Description: With soft, rounded features, a bulbous nose, and two stubby legs, these creatures look harmless. They come in various sizes, from a quarter of a foot to the size of a grown man, and skitter about very quickly. They seem to have no intelligence at all, acting more like rodents than anything else--and they steal food whenever they can get it. They raid food stashes eagerly, and any door left open--even the door of a dorm room--is one they can travel through to search. They're incredibly resistant to injury, with any attack bouncing off and the injuries being reflected on their attacker instead. They will not harm anyone directly, however.

Orc
World: Lord of the Rings
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 4
Danger Rating NIGHT: 6
Description: These creatures appear similar to what a classic fantasy version of a tall, graceful elf might look like if they were subjected to endless centuries of torture and torment. Often bloody with missing or deformed limbs that appear as if they have been broken and healed improperly a thousand times, the orcs can charitably be described as completely, violently mad. They attack with weapons--swords and bows--but are not beyond using other monsters if they feel overwhelmed. They tend to appear in groups; their numbers are smaller during the day than they are at night.

Phantom
World: Tower
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 0
Danger Rating NIGHT: 2
Description: These phantoms are more like vaguely humanoid mist than anything most of the time, and during the day they will cause no harm. During the night, however, they will call out to characters in the voices of people they miss from home. Drawing too near a phantom will disable your powers and drain your energy--while they're easy enough to run from, if you remain near them they will eventually sap everything you have and kill you. They will not pursue you for long.

Piranha Plant
World: Mario
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 6
Danger Rating NIGHT: 6
Description: Multiple thick red bulbs sit atop a stalk that resembles a vine more than a stem--these plants can open their mouths to reveal sharp teeth. They are capable of movement, though they cannot go farther than their vine allows, and react to any nearby creatures, attempting to bite and consume anything that draws too near. They can be found with normal plants, hanging from walls or ceilings, or concealed in dark spaces. Still, they're not especially clever, and while they're more dangerous than a normal plant, they're susceptible to most plant dangers.

Ramp
World: El Shaddai
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 3
Danger Rating NIGHT: 5
Description: These inky black creatures look as if they were mashed together on the way to the Tower: they have multiple, mutilated heads, four or five arms and legs each, and generally appear to constantly be in pain. This doesn't stop them from attacking those around them, though; they are fairly weak but tend to attack in groups that grow larger at night. They will not attack those who are evil or otherwise infested with darkness and impurity.

Rupee
World: Legend of Zelda
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 3
Danger Rating NIGHT: 3
Description: These appear to be little gems, coming in green, red, blue, purple, silver, and gold varieties. They're scattered about inside chests, drawers, in the grass, etc. When picked up, they immediately grow teeth, bite, and vanish--taking with it an item you own. You will find your stolen item somewhere in the Tower, often in the most inconvenient, dangerous places.

Shadow Glob
World: Kingdom Hearts
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 2
Danger Rating NIGHT: 4
Description: Shadows that have taken on mass, these tend to form in any place that is consistently dark--thus leading them to often form under furniture and in seldom-used corners. They do not move, and are thus easily avoided, but if one should step into them, the glob will set about the task of grinding down their feet. If one falls fully into one, well, their whole body will be ground up, except for their heart, which is sucked into the glob whole. They grow larger at night, when the darkness grows. They will not attack any character that lacks a heart.

Trenchrats
World: World of Darkness
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 3
Danger Rating NIGHT: 4
Description: These emaciated, sickly ghost rats act as if they still belong in the world of the living. They vary in size; some are as small as hamsters, while some grow as large as medium-sized breeds of dog. However, to find one larger than a raccoon is rare. Most often, the trenchrats are simply rodent-sized. They like to occupy floors with many small hiding spots, and they tend to infest like most Earth rats and mice. They are very skittish and mostly keep to themselves, but their bites cause any number of diseases. Lucky characters might escape with a cold, but unfortunate characters may find themselves with things like tuberculosis, malaria, or the bubonic plague.

Wisp
World: El Shaddai
Rarity: Common
Danger Rating DAY: 3
Danger Rating NIGHT: 3
Description: From afar they appear as simple floating balls of fire, but whoever spots a group of three or more gathering will be compelled to draw closer and investigate. When close enough, you might find that they are actually half-hatched eggs, with the limbs and body parts of a small, inky black creature trying desperately to claw its way out of the shell. Unfortunately, they are also most likely to gather around the edges of dangerous areas, or near more dangerous and rare monsters. Rarely, a Wisp will force its way down into the throat of a victim. They will hatch in the victim's stomach and devour the victim from the inside out with painful, thick black acid.
